I have heard some speculation that facebook could someday go public in the stock market. If so will it be a good buy? Will it compare to google or grow even faster?

If it does, it might be good for a short hold as being that facebook is a business based around a cultural movement it could tank as quick or quicker than it rose to power. Remember myspace. Everyone used it now they don't ....

Google is a more diversified company with offerings that apply to people in many sectors. I'm not sure you can compare facebook to google.

Also if facebook goes public their has to be some reason more than to "benefit investors" They are HUGE why would they ever want to share what profits if any they may have if they are already established. Its much like if Microsoft was still a private company then for no reason decided to go public. Usually these things are out of a need for growth when its a good idea, or maybe in facebook's situation a desperate cry for capital as they probably have a difficult time turning a profit. When was the last time you gave a penny to facebook???

Go read up on dot.com and see if you can find any parallels in how facebook measures up to the now burning ash pile of wasted investments.

keep in mind myspace used to be the undefeated leader in the social network. no one came even close to challenging them until facebook came along. now, google is hinting of their own social network, which may or may not mean the end of facebook's reign.
