Facebook is a public resource. Of course, you can control who sees your Facebook page by adjusting your privacy settings; then, your teacher would have to be your friend in order to see what you post. It most certainly is not "illegal". The teacher may be checking student's Facebook pages because she/he wants to stay "in tune" w/ their likes and dislikes in order to facilitate better lesson plans, not to be nosy. As teachers are humans and judged themselves by very strict moral codes, there certainly are teachers who may view students's pages either from concern or from less positive motivations.

BTW I know it seems like a long time away but employers look at potential employees Facebook pages in order to "judge" their moral character. This happens to teachers, white collar workers and various other positions. Sorry for the dose of realism.

Presumably either one of two things is occuring, you have a teacher as a friend on FB or you have your profile set to public which means you are open to anyone at all looking at it. In either of these cases there is no privacy being invaded by the teacher as in both cases you (or your friend) have put the information out there to the public for anyone who cares to look. If you really care about who is looking at your profile I can only suggest that you review your privcay settings
