(10 points!!) should i download the facebook app?

i have a t mobile G2 and it already had a widget on the home screen for facebook when i bought the phone. i am always logged on it and when i first got it for the first week it always showed me my notifications,chat messages without me clicking onto the facebook widget. now i have to check it myself by going into the facebook widget to see if i have notifications. my fb chat doesn't show me if someone sent me a message. the other day i went online on my computer and i had 3 messages unread, they are suppose to be sent to my phone!.
what is wrong here?
should i go to the android market and download another fb?

I personally really hate the mobile app for Facebook. Doesn't matter which phone I've used it on, it's sucked on all of them. I use my phone's browser to go to m.facebook.com. There's also a "touch" page, but I don't like that one as much either. I find the only way to reliably get the alerts and messages I want to get is to go right to the site.
