Is it right to ask random guys out on facebook?

I was thinking of asking this random guy on facebook because I am too shy to ask in person. I was going to say, "Hey I was wondering if you wanted to go out sometime?" Should I ask this or should I not?

Try having a conversation with him first, get to know him. Start by just saying hi over Facebook, which won't be too nerve wracking. Then you'll be able to tell if there's any chemistry, and he'll feel more comfortable when you do ask him out. It will also mean that you won't be strangers if you do end up going out
