Not just artwork like paintings and digital drawings but clothing designs and sculptures too. Ways that aren't expensive or are even free.

I figured I might answer this one too since I can kind of offer some advice:

Etsy is a great place to start. It's specifically for handmade or vintage items, and is certainly going to attract people looking for craft vs Ebay where people are more likely to look for bargains. This isn't to say you should avoid Ebay, just that they seem to be aimed at different people - so use both!

You should also create a website (you can do it for free with the many website builders out there, but your own domain name is worth the $10 annual investment!) and update it often; a newsletter or subscription list is also a good idea and can be done cheaply. In fact, you can take a sign up sheet for your email newsletter with you to markets.

Which brings me to my next suggestion: go out into the world. Find local craft/design markets and see how much a stall costs to hire. It can be expensive so you may need to work your way up to this one. Some community centres or local councils have markets which tend to be cheaper to join.

Also, find out more about your competition: where do they advertise? Follow their lead. Or find out where people like you congregate and join their society, forum, conference or whatever. Funnily enough, even your competition may send you referrals if you make friends with them and they don't offer the exact kind of thing you do; and by participating in the community you can increase your visibility anyway.

Business cards, flyers and other typical marketing techniques will all work too, especially if you target the right people.

These days Facebook, Twitter or other social networking accounts are all useful. Drum up interest by posting a video, pictures, or other updates.

Enter competitions with your designs. Approach local galleries... the list goes on.

You know what would be a good idea? Googling this stuff. There are HEAPS of marketing people who post about techniques and you don't have to pay anything to see it: they usually put it on their own blogs. I put "marketing art" into Google and came up with a whole bunch of suggestions:
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=marke...annel=fflb
A lot of the suggestions were from local government arts boards, so you could check out your government arts advisory and see what resources they have on it too.

EDIT: Being curious myself, I clicked on a few of the links. This one stands out:

This is a great post! If you are looking for ways to boost traffic, promote a product such as art then I highly recommend my review of a new product that will make all the above mentioned methods 10 times faster. Feel free to check out my blog at http://doeswebifrework.blogspot.com/
