Is social media dumbing down people and society?
Some of the status updates and comments people make really do come across as stupid or sheepish sometimes.

Yes. People become too dependent on the social media for information. Social media also tries to put us humans in constant fear, so we will depend on them

YES!

But also, people are REALLY dumb sometimes. When you write it down it seems quite "loud".

Yes, the social media has political agendas. Certain stations are certain political parties. Also, the media loves crime and certain crimes. And they like to skew crime statistics. You can go online and look for yourself. But things such as school shootings are not on the rise. They hit are hearts hard and especially when it is children (bless all involved) however the media skews the reality of the situation involving school shootings nationwide. Things such as domestic abuse, iatrogenic means, cause way more deaths each years than from school shootings. The media chooses things such as school shootings because it increases ratings, and other things they don't want society to be hyperaware of and not question.
