Has social media helped democracy?

I personally believe that Social Media has helped Democracy in many ways... just by being able to send a message that can be viewed by so many at a large scale.

Some say that Facebook and the media still control a lot of what we see through social media.

What is your take on this?

Face book and other social media is used by young generation more frequently. thus its easy to circulate message to mass and youth population than any other way. thus its power full tool to keep democracy alive.
