How to gain media attention and succesfull marketing for a self published book?
Someone in my hometown has self published a great fiction story with a self publishing company, the book is well written and i really enjoyed it, it is a vampire /prophecy kind of genre and the author plans on making it into a series

can anyone tell me how she should go about getting her book out there and achieving actuall sales of her novel?

the link to her website is below

http://www.facebook.com/illusionstheseries
ok sorry i put the wrong link up!! correct link below

http://www.illusionstheseries.com/
ok yes the book is very short and way over priced, the author is looking at doing a second edition of the book and fleshing it out more, also looking at maybe getting the book printed herself instead of using the self publishing company, They are the one who set the price of the book Not the author, but come on people, its her first try!! It might not be the best book out there but its all part of the growing experience as a writer and unless one of these answers comes from an actuall published author, remember everybody has to start out somewhere

Her book IS out there.

Unfortunately, readers don't buy self-published books, and the media largely ignore them. If she wanted actual sales, why did she self-publish?

Ah - answered that one myself. The book is only 140 pages long. I doubt any publisher would look at it.

Her book is ridiculously expensive for something so short. I suggest she cuts her losses, writes a better book, and tries to sell it to a commercial publisher.

That's not a novel. It's a novella at best. And the writing is meh. I wouldn't even go so far as to say it's decent. You're not going to gain media attention for something you worked on for a month, slapped on a seal of approval, and attempted to ship out to the masses.

EDIT: WHAT? LOL. 30 DOLLARS FOR A 140 PAGE PIECE OF GARBAGE?

SERIOUSLY? 29.99 for 139 paged self-published book?! I'm sorry but there's no way you're going to find more than a few people willing to pay that. Even the 9.99 for the ebook is over the top and most people prefer to have hard copies anyway.

I think she needs to give up the idea that this book is going to become any way successful if it's so short and costs SO much.

''Alternatively you can contact the author, Allison Andrews, directly for a signed copy. Paypal or direct payment is available for $37 including postage.''

It's said like it's a good thing. It's not. 37 dollars for 139 pages is scandalous.

I converted it to euros out of curiosity and it's 21 euro... I wouldn't DREAM of paying that much for a normal sized book, never mind one with 139 pages. The most I've ever paid for a book was 13 and that was because it was the last in a series and I wanted it so bad- and it had over 700 pages.
