Are there regulations against creating a fake facebook profile?
I'm planning to start an alternate reality game (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...alityGame) in a few months, and for part of the immersion aspect I wanted to create a fake facebook profile for my main character, where followers of the series could "add" her as a friend and follow the story. Are there rules against this if its not for the purposes of spam/porn/pornspam?
I do have another email account I would use so that I could register it, and I'd probably include a small disclaimer in the "About Me" section somewhere. I just want to know if there's evidence of people who have used this before with this intent and had problems, or if its specifically outlined somewhere.
I just think it would really suck and might break the immersion if it was randomly deleted, particularly if its at a key point in the story. Other ARG's have used multiple twitter, tumblr, and other profiles for their characters, but my character in particular is definitely more of a facebook person.

Uhm I believe facebook T&C limits one facebook profile per person but tbh you can add people and add them to your 'Smart Lists' (for example create a smart list called ARG then change your privacy settings so it excludes ARG from seeing certain things or only ARG can see some things). It should be fine anyway if you chose to create another prof.

There is probably some sort of regulations against this but i have created more than one account before and it was fine so i don't see any harm in it, If someone does report it then the worse that could happen is the fake account gets deleted (which is unlikely) so i say go for it Smile

1) No one pays attention to Terms of Use. Even Facebook. They're too busy making and thinking up new modifications to browse through all the users to find fake or inactive profiles.

2) I've had 500 friends who were all game characters. I unfriended them later, but the fact is I did have them on my list with no one getting warning e-mails/messages or anything alike.

3) Many people do this to hide their initial identity, i.e., keep their anonymity on the web, and Facebook definitely understands this.

Conclusion: go right ahead and enjoy yourself. Cheers.
