What can I do about a flea market buying my stolen property?
This guy, used to be a friend of mine, had stole a bunch of my video games... Well, he's admitted that he took the to our local flea market and sold them to the guy in the back...

I had went directly to the flea market, asked the guy in the back about it. I could see my games, lined up and in a glass box... Well over $300 worth of video games... The guy admitted that he bought them from my ex-friend when I showed him a picture... And then he got rude...

He's saying there's not a "G.D" thing I can do about it.... Laughed at me, and told me to call the cops- that they couldn't do anything about it... That he has to deal with the cops all the time and he never gets in trouble.

So I bought back ONE of my games, I did this because I had my name written inside the case, behind the book... It was gone... When I questioned him about it he said he removed it, and removed my name on all the games with alcohol...

Well, I talked to the owner of the flea market, he told me he'd help me out and get me back my games... He never did, and I'm thinking he blocked my number.. I even went into the flea market to talk to him, I watched him run and hide... Literally...

I've even commented and messaged them on their facebook page- all my comments have been removed and I was blocked.

Contact local authorities, threaten the manager of the flea market with legal repercussion. Possession of stolen property is a crime, at least where I'm at.

Immediately contact the police and advise them that the property
being sold at a flea market - Is your stolen property.

They should treat it as with pawn shops. Collect your items & investigate why.
Then release your property to you.

Take your friend to Judge Judy. No, really, file claim against your Fiend, and yes I mean fiend, in small claims court. Sue them for max you can get. If that does not work, email me at stevenm_j@yahoo.co.uk, I will get your money back for you. Don't ask how. Haha

You're kind of SOL on this one.

(1) Did you report the theft when it happened? If not, someone could argue that you gave the property to your friend and you have no proof they took without your consent which means they have the right to sell the items.

(2) Can you prove the items at the flea market belong to you? You already said that the guy removed your name from the items so it will be difficult to convince authorities they are yours.

(3) Can you get your friend to admit to police they sold items that did not belong to them? Really it is the only way the police can try to get back your stuff from the flea market vendor.

(4) Look into suing your friend in small claims court. Around me, it is a $10 filing fee for court costs. If you can't get your stuff back then you can file the items and their current value with the court. Your friend will have to appear before a judge and either argue that the items belong to them or make arrangements to pay you the money. This is a civil suit and they may or may not have an issue for the criminal part of it depending on the judge.

Contact local police dept. and if you didn't make a police report do it now and inform them that you found your property at the flea market.

Your ex friend will be facing theft charges and the guy at the flea market for receiving stolen property and proceed from there.
