How do i stop Facebook fan pages from sending me updates?

On the left, under Msgs. There's the Updates tab and i have like 2400 unread updates by fan pages!!!! And it's so annoying cause i don't read them cause they're mostly self praises and other page suggestions. How can i stop fan pages from sending me updates without having to unlike the page itself? Or is that the only method?

u have to block (to post information). no way......... i did the same

no, you don't have to block or unlike.. whenever you go to the messages, click 'select all' and then the 'unsubscribe' button. it won't unlike them, it will just block them from sending you message updates
