It's a good idea, they're getting their information out in an inexpensive but people friendly way. Almost everyone I know has a facebook so it's not like these businesses are just targeting one age group, they can now get to people of all ages.

I think it's a good idea for them. Good way to promote themselves. If someone doesn't like it, then why add/like them?!? Riiiiiiight?

I am in an Enterprise class (how to start a business) and it is definitely a great idea!. You can notify people about promotions and etc. So its good for the business, but if your against, you can disable the notifications but still see whats up on the fan page when ever you want to!

Clearly businesses stand to benefit enormously from facebook due in large part to the fact that facebook does everything possible to profit by providing businesses access to it's members private information while at the same time absolving itself of all culpability of said transactions. In effect, facebook has become more of a consumer network for businesses and less of a social network for it's members.
