Question about Ebay Bidding?

Question about Ebay Bidding?
This is my first time bidding.

Let's say the thing I'm bidding on is now up to 200.99 dollars and it says the next bid must be over 203. I can't go over 220 on it, so can I bid 203 and then put on my highest paying amount like 1,000 dollars? My bid would go in as 203 though, but the next bid would have to be over 1,000.
If I win the bid, do I have to pay 203 or 1,000?
Thanks to everyone who answered, it all makes sense as to why no one does that, lmao. But they've got this new thing now where you can tell if you're the highest bidder or not. This is actually my second bidding item in one day. Lost the first one due to it got too high.
It was 123. Then I put 125 cause that's what it said to do (like the 203 in this other case), so I put 175 as my highest amount. Then I refreshed the page and it said the item was now 125 and the next bid should be 175 or higher.

if you enter 1,000.... then you will pay whatever is the highest bid... meaning.. if it goes to 500... and your 1,000 is still the highest.. 500 is it. If you can't go over 220.. then bid that... and leave it alone.. you will either win it at 220... or your 220 bid will be surpassed by someone.. don't bid 1,000 if you can't pay 1,000...

don't do that...if someone bids 500, it will go to 600 and that is YOUR 600 and you would be on the hook for it. if you can't bid at the last moment, put in your 220 and keep your fingers crossed!

If $220 is all you can pay, then that's your "high bid"
If you put your high bid as $1,000, and someone bids $999, then you win and would owe $1,000.

if you put in a an automatic bid of 1000 it will match any bid up to 1000 so if someone bid 799 your bid would be (say) 802 and so one until someone bids more than 1000 if no one bids more than 220 , it would be yours, but be careful of children bidding and shill bidding , happens all the time on ebay the kids keep bidding up to ridiculous amounts and shill bidding where a friend of the seller bids the amount up to a level they want

If you bid $1,000 and there is another bid that is $999, you will win it and pay $1000. That is risky. You should just bid what you are prepared to pay which is $220. People bid up the price.
