What can we do to promote a new website?
Hi we have a new site glityzbits, selling fashion jewellery and hair accessories. Doing the usual SEO article marketing, directory subs and facebook. What can we do that will increase hits and sales?

you are doing right just take a few more step to promote your new site-
Give your participation in to forums related to the topic of your site
PTC ads and write Wiki page on your site or on topics that your site contain.

If you are doing the conventional marketing with seo it is good they are permanent but to increase sales you need more targeted traffic.

You can find more people who are interested in your website topic at forums. Join some online forums or community and be active ask questions also answer other peoples questions. Then once you have more than say 30 answers put a link back to your website in the signature with an attractive title.

Also make videos and submit to youtube they are holy grail of modern internet marketers. They rank well and people like them so more clicks and have a link to your website in description.

There are many ways to get traffic but you have to spend a lot of time and work hard (or outsource), some of them are the following:

1) Blog commenting on relevant to your site blogs

2) Guest posting on relevant and quality blogs (this is by far the most effective seo and traffic generating method)

3) Convert articles to videos and publish them on youtube (quality links and traffic)

4) forum posting (traffic)

Yes you are quire right on the requirements you mention. Writing articles and leaving your website link on the article is a very good idea of improving your website reputation and "Ranking".

They are open to articles so make use of it.

I think your article should be around 250 to 300 words.

It works really good in the longer run as well.
