Optic fiber to your house produces the best speeds, and less interference to other stuff like TV and radio. Google offers it in some cities.

There's likely no one answer. It is like cell phone service, it depends where and you have provided no information where you live. Also, what do you watch? That could be a difference.

It all depends on the person, given the fact that everyone has different perspective on what is and isn't a good internet service provider.

As said by the other answers so far, it depends.

However, I live in Salt Lake City and I go through Comcast. I'm slated for 50mbps download and I think like 7mbps upload, but I always get more like 55-58 down/9-11 up. I'm very happy with the internet, hasn't gone down for more than like a minute in the 6 months+ that I've had it.

I feel like Comcast as a business is comprised of soul-sucking cretins. My bill every month is confusing and they are vague as to what any "additional charges" are. Their customer service really sucks and takes an hour on the phone for anything meaningful to happen (we use Century Link at work, and my experience is the same... probably a big company thing). Is it worth it to me for the solid, fast internet? Yes, to me it is.

Luckily Salt Lake City is one of the cities Google Fiber is moving to Big Grin and I will surely switch to that when it happens.
