Get Magazine Interviews for Client?

I'm a PR & Marketing consultant who is dealing with somewhat difficult requests from my client. She's asking me to obtain interviews for her from magazines and other publications to help expose her brand. Given that I do have a Bachelor's degree in PR, I understand her request. From my knowledge, however, Aren't the magazines supposed to come to her (or technically, Me) for interviews? If I am mistaken, how would you go about contacting a magazine?

You can also make the initial contact through a social media site such as Facebook or LinkedIn. Many publications now have Facebook pages to promote their individual issues and the people who put them together, many of whom you can introduce yourself to with a friend request. LinkedIn offers a number of writing-related groups among its many discussion groups; you can use these to build a reputation and then request to add editors who belong to the same group to your LinkedIn network.
