Ebay bidding question?

I don't think I fully understand. I want to know if I place a bid of $50 on an item that is $30 will I have to pay the $50 or just the $30? I obviously would place a higher bid so I don't get out bidded but I'm not quite sure how this all works. Can someone help?

Ebay is simple the item will goes to the highest bidder, despite if the original price of the item is way cheaper. it is a bidding war . you pay what you bid, if you are the winner and not outbids by the rest if the time is up. hope it answer the question
