How does cleverbot work?

I used to think it worked by randomly switching conversations between all the people using it every few seconds, that's why it never stays on topic after a few messages.

I think you could be right. I have thought the same thing. I also wondered if it was a database that just repeated anything said to it before. I don't think anyone is really sure, though.

I would have thought that for things you say which it can analyse and has an answer for, it answers. For the answers it doesn't have, it says something random as it doesn't know how to continue.
