You might wish to start by explaining that what is now generally referred to as the "Internet" is just basically a telephone network that provides access to the World Wide Web.
http://www.explainthatstuff.com/howthewebworks.html And do a bit of research into Sir Tim Berners Lee who invented it; http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_fi..._tim.shtml This is a short explanation of what Internet actually is; http://www.explainthatstuff.com/internet.html This is a 3 page explanation of how it works by very keen bunch of British amateurs; http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/equip.htm And here are some snaps they took to show you what the equipment actually looks like when my old employers let them into a local BT exchange to do just that; http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/telephone_exchange.htm TCP?IP is worth a shufti to see how it transfers data; http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/d...ion/TCP-IP Well that is enough for now I think, and it covers the Web and the Net, and the ISPs that provide such services etc, the rest are just minor things really. Edit, I forgot to answer the main point of your question To answer your question it is important to understand that for the transmission of data to succeed then every part of the transmission system must understand what is going on, so a common architecture is essential. You should have a busy day tomorrow, but then we all did when learning about such things, regards, Bob. Ads |
