Why do some people attack the crusades ?
Crusaders protect us from Islam .
You think the invasion of Islam would be more appropriate?

The capture of Jerusalem in 1099 during the First Crusade , it meant opening Europe to the East , the acquisition of new markets and trade routes . The capture of Jerusalem in 1099 was comparable to the impact of NATO on Afghanistan in 2001 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 To understand this situation , just look at the map of Europe at the beginning of the eleventh century Islamic states held in the grip of southern Europe . In Spain lasted Caliphate of Córdoba , the Arabs ruled the islands of the Mediterranean, settled in Sicily, and their expedition threatened pilgrimages to Rome! In the East , after the Battle of Manzikert , within a few years the Byzantine Empire lost Anatolia , attacked mercilessly by the Muslim Seljuk Turks .

The First Crusade was launched at a time when the world of Islam was weak and divided . In Spain, Cordoba Caliphate disintegrated into several independent Taif , or kingdoms. In 1091 , the Roger I, leader of the Normans , bounced off the hands of the Arabs in Sicily and the Seljuk Turks were at odds with each other. Circumstances favored the expedition , and its strength was initially downplayed by the sultans and the rulers of the East. Capture of Jerusalem was a blow to the heart of Islam. Since 1099 , all the efforts of the Arabs and Turks focused on the recovery of the holy city - the destruction of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the three counties . To the Holy Land led by the Mamluks and fighters for the faith , just as today fanatical Islamists come to Afghanistan. Thanks to southern Europe gained many years of relaxation

The Crusades contributed to the cultural ethos of the ideal knight Europe - Those who did not set out fully aware of how small the chances for their safe return. It was an attempt of men, chivalrous characters, during which friendship was established sacrifice of life, not like today, knowledge of Facebook, and word of honor at times more valuable than gold. Assuming the cross, knight renounced his own life, sacrificed love, wealth and family. (...)

Contacts with the Orient and the Crusades bring us closer to many scientific achievements of Arabic. European scholars took from them the decimal system - adapted by the Arabs from India and promulgated by Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Musa al-Chuwarizmiego

They backfired in many ways. The Crusaders and their behavior actually weakened the already-wobbly Byzantine Empire, for example. The Byzantines had to deal with crazy European mercenaries running around as well as the Islamic threat. It was a mess. Byzantium eventually collapsed, partly due to this.

Seeing how prosperous and cultured the Caliphate in Cordoba and Granada was, you only have to look at the Mezquita even now, compared to what was happening elsewhere in Xtian Europe, it asks the question of why would it have been so bad if Islam was dominant?

It would have saved Europe from the predations of the Catholic church, massive religious wars, internal crusades, inquisitions and would have had a softening effect on Islam.

They did help weaken the muslims. A couple times the did come close to breaking through the gates and rapaging their radical ideas throughout the West...however they were defeated at the Battles of Lepanto, Vienna, and the Second Battle of Vienna. These great victories by the Catholics ensured that the Turks would stay in the balkans and go no further.

The Crusades were not necessarily about religion--the Catholics of Europe wanted to trade with the land in the middle east, and gain lots of profit off of it. Well, the muslims dont want to trade. So, the Pope comes up with this great idea of a "Crusade". The Crusades have truly changed history, for the better, in my oppinion.

Today the muslim countries in Arabia and the Middle East pose absolutely no threat. Yeah, they can ram planes into buildings, but really....thats about it. its not like they are going to launch a massive offensive invasion against America or Europe...thats just not going to happen. If it does it will fail epicly. Europe and America, the civilised world, is just too technologically advanced for muslims to do anything to them.
