Wordpress, Hosting and Merchant Question?
Hello, I am kind of a newbie to wordpress and I am needing some clarification.

Okay, so I am setting up an Wordpress, e-commerce site and I know that I am wanting to use Stripe for my merchant and Payment gateway. The problem is, is that when I am looking at hosting for my website they say that they have their own merchant account and payment gateways. My question is; Do I have to use the merchant account that my Host (I was looking at ipage) provides for me? And will I have any issues integrating Stripe with any host that i decide to use?

Thanks!
I will be using WooCommerce which Stripe is compatible with, So that wont be an issue.
I did contact iPage and they told me that they use "Accept Safe" as a merchant.
and I am just wanting to know if I can use ipage for hosting but still use WooCommerce and Stripe.
I dont want to pay for hosting just to find out that it is not compatible with what I want.

Thanks for the responses so far, they have been helpful.

hosting companies that say that do not give you the freedom to chose what works for you.

in a cpanel that is not crippled there are many software packages that can be added to your WP install, then all you need to do is configure the options for stripe, some may already be setup for that.

what ipage and others like them are supplying is a SSL certificate, but for that they charge you about $39 per MONTH-- where your own SSL can cost $100 to $150 per YEAR

on a side note-- do you really need those fees or would something like paypal and google cash, dwolla, etc work just as well

With Wordpress it will depend if Stripe has a Wordpress plugin that you can use or is included in a 3rd party e-commerce Wordpress plugin. You do not have to use anything your host wants. If so, change your host.

Usually, e-commerce Wordpress plugins are created with all the required components ie product details, product delivery, shipping for physical products, payment processor which would include 1-5 individual processors ie Paypal,Moneybookers,2Checkout etc but in all instances Paypal would be one.

I have never seen Stripe included in any Wordpress e-commerce plugin but some one else might know one.

I would recommend WPMUDEV plugin for e-commerce. Lots of options and gateways that could suit your website's needs.
