i won an item on ebay so does it mean i dont have to pay for it? plzz help?
i am from india.and i make my purchases from ebay.in
normally when i make a payment via debit card for an item,i get forwarded to banks page and then i enter my password and then the transaction gets complete and then i get a message on my mobile number showing that amount has been deducted from bank by ebay.

so in this new case,i was buying an item off ebay, then i confirmed the order and then it took me to the banks page, then i entered my password as usual and the transaction was complete but this time i didnt recieve a notification immediately in my mobile that money was deducted by ebay .etc so i assumed it was a temporary problem and i thought that i will recieve the notiification about deductions a few hours later. so in the meanwhile i decided to open my email and this time it was shown that the item that i ordered via my debit card just now was won by me.
it was like this,"congratulations you have won ebay item",when i opened the mail to see it,it was the same item i ordered with my debit card,so then i assumed that this was the reason why i may have not recieved notification immediately in my mobile about deductions by ebay.

so does winning an item on ebay actually mean that you will get it for free or will you have to make some payment for it?

"Winning" means you placed the highest bid. You're not going to get anything for free.

winning notifications is not the same as payment notifications..
It simply means that you have won the auction, and it will be yours if you complete the payments..
It is very possible that the payment transaction failed and that you have to repeat the process again.. and it is also possible that your transaction was successful..

My local bank usually blocks internet money transactions after 8 pm until 8 am, it is their policy, so it is possible that your bank temporarily intercepted that payment for some reason or another..

That is what ebay is for.. it is there to make sure that the money was sent and keep the record for that..

Simply go to your ebay page and log in..
On the right upper corner of the ebay page click on "My eBay".. and click on "Bids and offers"..
Look for the items that you bid, and click on it..

Again, dont be fooled by "you won" but look for "payment complete" (which means that your bank have completed the payment) or "payment Pending" (which means that you need to repeat the payment process again by clicking make payment)

Don't worry, if you make the payment twice for the same one item, ebay will take notice and taken the measure not to be cheated..

Also go to the "purchase history" on the left side (or the right upper corner after moving the mouse to "My eBay") and check whether the item in question is there..

One more advice.. do not use your debit card to make online payments.. it is very dangerous.. it is every computer virus maker's dream to have their computer virus hacking and getting your Debit card information..

Unless that you have a secondary bank account with only few dollars in it.. I also use my debit card for eBay purchases, and only have like 100 or 200 dollars in them.. of which you really don't care much if the computer hackers manage to withdraw the funds from it clean..

If the debit card is for your primary bank account that also receive your monthly salary and other source of income.. I strongly urge you to destroy the debit card and have it replaced -immediately- at the nearest bank branch..

A new issued card will have a different card number and a different set of card information..

All the best..

H.M.
