Am I weird for not using facebook?
I'm 20 years old, and I'm not too abnormal, just an average college student really, except for the fact that I don't use Facebook, and frankly, kinda of find it a complete waste of time. Honestly, I just don't really care to see what my friends or family are doing if it doesn't include me. Is that selfish? I don't really know, but I do know that if it's something important that I need to know, such as emergencies or what not, I won't need Facebook to find out. Also, I don't really care to tell the internet what I'm doing. Ever, actually. I just don't see the point. I don't like taking pictures of myself either, because that makes me feel a little pompous (not that I mind other people doing it) so I don't use facebook for sharing pictures either.

I know that there are a few productive ways to use Facebook, such as organizing big events, or inviting people to groups, or whatever, but overall I just completely hate the idea of someone thinking they know me from an internet page and a bunch of pictures, and I don't want to be dependent on the constant upkeep of a facebook page.

So did I just totally blow your mind with how weird I am? Or are there other's out there like me?

PS. I know you might think me a hypocrite for using Yahoo Answers, but honestly this is completely different. This actually gives me answers from anonymous people, insuring complete honesty.

No its not weird. I don't use that childish social media crap either and I refuse to. I have a damn cell phone, along with most of America. And if I want to talk to somebody it will be right then and there not a list of comments spanning days at a time. I don't understand what's so interesting about know what some moron had for breakfast or some girls disgusting profile pictures.

No. I think it's an intelligent and sensible decision on your part. Shows you're not just one of these people who are like sheep, following what everyone else does.

I applaud your decision to not use Facebook. I've never had a Facebook account, and I have no intention of signing up for one.

Your reasons make perfect sense to me. I have talked to others who use it. Some people really like being able to see photos of family and friends, especially those who live far away. I hear about how people like to use it for chat or playing games.

On the other hand, I've heard about concerns that have developed with having a Facebook account. In my opinion, it's kind of a version of internet stalking. Why do you need to know every detail about what someone is doing at that particular moment? How many times have you turned on the news and learned about a former employee of a company who was fired for posting something on their "private" Facebook page. Guess what?! It's not private. The company keeps changing their privacy policy, so the majority of users do not even understand what is private. One final thing that I've always wanted to ask is, Why can't you actually delete your account? You can deactivate, and if you wait long enough it "eventually" gets deleted. There just seems to be too many problems in my opinion.
