I keep getting the sounds of ads in the background when I'm on the internet.?

I just got windows 7. There is no video with these ads when I minimize the page. I have blocked popups. How do I stop this?
Minister of Truth, this doesn't really help since I won't have sound for anything. I want to know how to stop these sound pop ups.
I figured it out for those of you who may have the same problem.

I have to close all of the ads on the page before I link to a new page or the sound from the ad is still there in the background. Very annoying.

click the speaker icon in your system tray/notification area in the lower right near the clock and cick the mute icon at the bottom.
