Why are some fonts on the internet rendering so poorly?

Sometime within the last day or two it started doing this. It doesn't happen on every site... just the ones where the text may not be fully stylized, like Yahoo!, for example. Happens on both Firefox and Chrome. I attempted to find a solution, but it's a hard problem to word, and the best ones I found -- re-install Flash, update my graphics drivers (which seems to be current), enable ClearType -- didn't work. Any pointers?

Windows 7, HP Pavilion.

check the internet connectivity. it may be due to slow internet connection.
