Locked Browser?

I had a pop-up tab that said my browser had been locked and that the evidence could be used against me. I was definitely not doing anything illegal, but it did startle me to see it. It knew my IP address and had my local city name as the police stations names. There was also a countdown of days on the right side of the screen. I freaked out and shut my computer down before reading much of what it said. Is this a scam? Would the police do this or even be able to lock my browser?

Lol, stay off porn sites or atleast pick safer ones , this is malware. Its a money scam to trick you in to thinking your in trouble. It grabs your IP and does a whois lookup to determine your city and state.

If you shut it down when it popped up turn it back on and you should be fine. If its a laptop and you just closed the screen pull power cord, pull battery then put it all back in and you should be fine again.

If you clicked on any programs to run then you need some one to now remove the infection you put on it. If you just saw the little window popup and it comes up fine after rebooting then nothing to worry about.
