Sure. Of course, it all depends on the question. The best question to ask here is one that you really need an answer to, but can't find the answer any other way. If it's something that is best looked up on a search engine, use one. If it is something you really should ask your friends or parents about, do so.

As long as you are asking for information or advice of general interest to the community, it's ok to ask it here. Remember, this site has rules that are far different from those of a chat room or social media site, because this is an information exchange site.

If you're still fairly new here, I suggest you become acquainted with what's available under the About link near the bottom of the categories list on the left-hand side of the page. Many people waste their points by asking things that are very easily found there.

All these pages are short and each takes only a real minute to read. Still, they contain information that makes your time on Y!A a whale of a lot easier. Give yourself 5 minutes, go look at these things, and you'll be doing yourself a huge favor.

First, take a quick read through the How Answers Works page. It explains everything clearly and concisely.

Then, check out the Points & Levels page. You'll see how to earn and spend points, how many you need for each level and what you can do at that level, so you know what you're saving for.

To get points faster, be sure to answer and vote your daily limits. Give thoughtful, polite, informative, and accurate answers so that yours has a better chance at being chosen Best Answer.

Ask a question only when you really need to know something and can't find it any other way. When you do ask a question, always be sure to choose a Best Answer. That gets you 3 of your 5 points back.

To choose a Best Answer, go back to your question after it has been open at least an hour -- and before it expires in 4 days. Click on one of the big blue Choose As Best Answer buttons and follow the prompts. Save your changes at the bottom of the page.

To vote on unresolved questions, go to the top of any category's question list and click on the In Voting tab. You'll see what to do from there. Voting on unresolved questions earns you a point per vote.

Click on the Answers Home link at the top of the list of categories on the left side of the page, scroll down to see the purple banner, and then click on More at the right end of that banner. Click on Saved Searches. Save 3 new ones and that gets you 10 or 20 points.

Have a look at the Community Guidelines, found under the About link near the bottom of the list of categories on the left side of the page. Violations cost you 10 points each. If you're trying to save up to get to the higher levels, please have a look at the Guidelines. They will save you bucketloads of points.

Once you've read the Guidelines, take the short quiz.

That can get you 20 points.
