Since Myspace is irrelevant...what would be a logical online marketing strategy for an independent musician?
I do almost all I can do, marketing wise...passing out cds...performing shows....but the main place I work is still Myspace, and I've realized Myspace is not going to help me get anywhere at this point...now...what should my next move be? I don't want to try Facebook, because I know how annoyed I'd be if someone came to my Facebook and told me to go to some other site and listen to their music. And Twitter really doesn't seem worth the time. I already plan on setting up my own website...but aside from that..what should be my next move?

myspace isn't completely irrelevant.. that's actually how colbie caillat became famous and many other people get heard who normally wouldn't have much chance of being heard through that site. don't give up on it, and most importantly, just don't stop trying.. get your music heard everywhere you possibly can.

i personally am trying to do the same, and i really like the site: http://www.purevolume.com alot, you should check it out and make a page there if you don't already have one. then you can put either the music player from there into most any other web page, or you can add the link to ur purevolume in them too

As a performing artist, the best way is to make clips and post them onto video sites like YouTube. There have been plenty of artists who got much notice from YouTube such as Marie Digby, Tay Zonday, and Sungha Jung.

The MySpace and Facebook are portals for you to potentially network your fans, but are poor promotional tools.

However, I must remind you that due to the saturation of the market. Your talent must be outstanding, and your clip should be made with a little bit of professionality. At the least, a decent microphone.

Best of luck! And send me your YouTube channel when you do.

Yes sending flyer's and posting on other peoples pages is kind of played out...but Have you looked into buying banners on myspace? Most record companies still place ad's on myspace. This approach on buying ad's is the next step in on line promotion. Myspace and Yahoo both run banner ad's specials for local campaigns. You'll find the option for more info on ad's for myspace is located on the bottom of the home page of myspace reading "Advertise"! This will give your album a better image from the local to the major scene! I added a link at the bottom for you...look into it before you give up on it.
