Do you think using Coca Cola in this advert was a success? Or did it simply do free advertising for them?

I don't think it gave them free advertising as people would probably presume it was Coca-Cola as it is a common brand next to Pepsi, I think it was needed in the advert so the audience knew it wasn't what she asked for as Pepsi and Coca-Cola look the same in appearance. The little girl doesn't promote Coca-Cola in anyway but demerits it so it didn't do Coca-Cola any favours.

I think it might have given them free advertising as the logo is so memorable and at that stage of the advert, right at the beginning, the message that it's a poor substitute for Pepsi isn't clear.
