Question for an Attorney?
Recently I was jumped while leaving a party, i was attacked by around 3 different people given a concussion and left laying on the ground with 3 different fractures in my jaw. The police are currently trying to find the group that did this to me and i have around 10 thousand dollars in hospital bills and fees not including what my insurance covers. When my attackers are found should i sue? or do you think the settlement would be worth it? I personally want to see this people pay for what they did.

Yes you should sue. Some states have a victims relief fund for cases like this were the assailant can't pay. Save every receipt including travel expenses to and from the doctors. My son had a similar issue, and the Illinois fund would cover up to $35,000 in damages.

I wanted to add to that. Like Badger said. Talk to the prosecutor. We were able to find the guys that jumped my son via facebook of all things. Found a kid that knew a kid, and we started going through the friends list. Found one kid from his picture, and he rated the others out.

Can you sue? sure

Will you get anything? Good chance you would never see a dime

First (and chances are they will never be caught) they will be in jail or prison

Second, if they have nothing, then you get nothing

Agreed this was a terrible event that happened to you, but the chances of you collecting anything are slim. I mean these punks do not have anything to take

John is correct, your state may have some sort of funds for victims, call your prosecutor and ask if yours does and if it does, how do you file a claim (Good advice John)

first rule of suing people
1, Don't sue people who have no money
its pointless
if they do find these guys and they have good jobs, sue them

Why were you out at a party where there were criminals running around waiting to jump you? You should take some responsibility for your own security and avoid traveling in bad neighborhoods, instead of blindly assuming that you're going to be safe everywhere.

You probably aren't going to be able to find these thugs, and since your insurance company doesn't want to pay for your negligence, you might be out $10,000.
