how much can be made from a website?

We are in the process of building a website and would like to know how much can be made and how long it will take to start making money from it,
We run a free successful betting tips group on Facebook with around 1000 and the guy who owns it is in the process of making a website with features like. Live Scores, tables, odds checker, bet calculator, odds converter, forum, sport video of the week, with affiliate links and advertising space etc. but when you ask people in the same business they don't like to give the answers so would just like a rough idea or any advice you could give us! so roughly how long it takes from the website going live to making decent money cheers

6 months to 1 year. You need some SEO and if you promote only in FB, than you should consider some budget to advertise there. With the new FB policy, only 15% of your fans are receiving your updates, so you should offer them to follow you.
These days Google is very sensitive to spamming and other fast techniques so don't be hasty. Just improve the site and people will come and like it.

If you are just starting out I would suggest you forget about any income and concentrate on getting your visitors. If you don't have targetted visitors you can forget about earning money. I would say get 500 targetted visitors a day. You will find that money starts to come in on its own at that stage.

It will probably take at least 3 months to even start to get a visitor base. You will need to create backlinks to your site in order to help with indexing. Research SEO and do what you can to increase your ranking. It will take at least 6 months more than likely a year or more until you start seeing profits. You will have to update pages and make it interactive for your visitors. Patience is the key to online success.
