An archive is any stored record of anything (Netflix has a huge archive of movies and TV shows).

A computer archive is a stored copy of a file/ files to ensure it's/ they're available later.

To archive is the act of storing the file(s).

Archiving can mean copying something from a site to your computer so you can get it without going on-line. It can mean backing-up your hard-drive in case it fails. It can mean transferring it to CD/ DVD and removing it from your system. Anytime you either copy something to a second location for safety, or transfer it to permanent storage elsewhere, it's called archiving.
