Smartphones use 3G or 4G which, if you have slow internet at home can be much faster. The avg internet speed of 3G is about 2MB to 3MB/s and 4G can go up to 100MB to 150MB

There are a lot of factors that could explain this. First of all is the network card that your computer uses compared to your phone. Gaining bandwidth from your phone may be better than your computer. Also, content that shows on phones are less compared to content on computer systems so load time on phones are faster.

Depends on what you are downloading. Is it downloads from a website with a direct link or do you download using a 3rd pary App

It could be a problem related to bad signal if you're using wifi in a wifi crowded area, or if there's alot of metal around. Another thing you could try is to find an online internet speed test like http://www.speedtest.net/ and check what it says. Do you know what the promised speed of your connection is?
