Why would the value be eight?

Why would the value be eight?
In the next sequence of numbers, why would A be equal to eight? The answer to A is eight obviously, but I just want to know why.

1 5 6 3
4 A 1 2
9 1 2 3
1 1 6 7

The numbers all add up to 15.

1 5 6 3 = 15
4 A 1 2 = 15 "4+8+1+2=15
9 1 2 3 = 15
1 1 6 7 = 15
