Facebook message other folder?

hey guys i need to send someone i know a facebook message but they say your message will go to the persons other folder since you are not connected to the person on facebook so i did send a message but will they know it if its in the other folder??

he/she will only be able to see the message if he/she will manually open the 'others' folder in messages
