local hosted site not working?
hi all, i have just turned on my virtual server that i have setup dns and iis earlier on. i have just purchased a new domain and have setup the dns information on godaddy and my server as well as setup the iis record and everything.

i am trying to connect to my website which is ctos.co.uk

if i try to connect from a computer or device on my network "which is the same as the server" then i cannot access using either my external wan ip address or the address of ctos.co.uk.

if however i try to connect using a proxy server, dns checking website or use my mobile phone "not connected to wifi" then i can connect strait away.

i have even tried using my mothers internet connection and she is using the same provider and she lives under neath my flat so we would be connected to the same UBR for virgin and use the same name servers ect.

do you have any idea whats going on? anything i can try

by the way i cannot access any of the other sites that i have hosted on my server either.
if i check out ping ctos.co.uk i get the correct ip address on my computer "my wans ip" i have tried flushing dns too

Hello,

Unfortunately, it's not a simple case of adding a DNS server to the Internet and it instantly works, you have to setup Forwarders, Lookups and Reverse lookups to other DNS servers. The DNS record for ctos.co.uk should point to your DNS server because that's where the name is going to be resolved.

In brief, a DNS works by resolving a human readable name (ctos.co.uk) to IP Address (123.123.123.123) and also the other way round.

Even when you've done this, you have to wait for all the other DNS servers to replicate their records to your server and for your server to replicate it's records to theirs. This could be anywhere from 5 minutes to 24 hours - depending on the host of that DNS and how busy the server is.

You also really should have a static IP address, because your ISP uses 'dynamic' IPs when they change your IP (router reboot for instants), you will lose connectivity while the DNS servers replicate details of your new IP address again. You also have to open ports on your Router to allow traffic through because, by default, this kind of data is blocked.

There are FREE DNS Proxies about which can handle all this mucky DNS for you, so I would suggest looking into one of these and then just having an IIS server going through this proxy.

Hope this helps.

Your problem is not difficult. You should check php code and need editing. I think that some time have to face this problem by hosting package. This main reason low server hosting. You should take good server.
