windows xp not activating through internet?

I reset my pc ( homemade ) & i even have an internet connection (wireless&wired) and when i go to activate windows it says internet connection not found i am asking this from the pc that wont activate. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may need to install the Ethernet card or wireless card drivers, because windows xp is so old that computers newer than xp will need all the drivers installed again. I also recommend that you should look at upgrading to Windows 7 or 8.
