Rather odd question regarding email adresses and accounts?

Hi there!
So here it goes.
I have a hotmail account addressed as such;

Notarealemail@hotmail.co.uk

Seems rather normal, right?
Accept, I dont live in the UK
I live in Canada.
How did I get the co.uk?
And how to I get it again, because I want to make a gmail account, but I like the fun of confusing people when I give them my email yet Im from Canada.

Due note, I spelt except wrong.

Also, there didn`t seem to be anything different when I first made my account a very long time ago, there was only the option to choose .co.uk
Idk if I was on another country`s website or what, Im not sure, that`s why Im asking.

There is not an UK gmail. It is regular gmail.com.
