what else do I need for my router?

Ok so my family has AT&T UVerse Cable and Internet plan , I was planning on buying myself a NetGear N900 Wireless Router because my home internet is really slow, what else do I need when I buy this Router? Like do I have to purchase my own internet plan or something or all I gotta do is just follow instructions when I get it? I personally want my own router because I play Call Of Duty and my home internet connection is awful and wi-fi on my phone sucks as well.

Where did you get the inane idea a router would speed up your internet? Your provider controls that. You want faster internet, you get a higher bandwidth package. A router isn't going to make it faster.

Sounds like you want a second "line" for your own router, which will be another huge charge on your monthly AT&T bill.

A router must has an internet connection else it can only act as a switch or a hub.
