A possible concern is that the results take into consideration the location the query is made from.

How make a query disentangled from this factor?
if not, what are the ways to make sure that the google positioning outsourced to a seo company really does work?

Yes. Don't log into to Google though.

No, google searches are not representative of your true rankings. Google skews all search results (also known as 'personalization') using many factors including your geographical location and past browsing history - regardless of whether or not you are logged into your Google account.

Note is you are logged into your Google account your search results and 'personalized' more because Google has more data to work with.

As such in any particular search on Google two people can see two different results. The only way to know exactly where you really rank is to look at the 'Average Position' under Traffic -> Search Queries in Google Webmaster Tools.

Remember an average is an average. This means in some countries in some countries you may rank higher and in others lower.

You can also do a search that avoids personalization by using Google Chrome:
- click the three horizontal bar icon in the top right corner of the browser
- choose 'New incognito window'
but bear in mind most people in the world are not using this as a way to browse the web so your rankings here are not that important.
