I'm not sure if you can us a router with dsl. Your modem hooks to you cable jack from your internet provider. Your WiFi router hooks up to the modem through a Ethernet cable. Basically all desktops made after 07ish have a WiFi reciever built in. If yours is old then that you can buy a WiFi connector that you plug into a usb jack for like 40 or less bucks. Also if your are concerned about moving away from dsl you might want to reconsider. Its not all that expensive and is 100 times faster. Why wait 5mins to say a 2min video when you can just click and watch. You can't watch Netflix on dsl. If you are gonna switch away from dsl. Don't go with companies like clear wire worst service ever. I couldnt even watch Netflix without it dropping connection, and I lived 1/4 mile away from the tower they had in town. Hope that helped. Also if you go with Comcast for 15 bucks extra a month you can rent a modem and router all in one instead of just the modem for 7.50 a month

Hi friend !

Desktop computer do not have any inbuilt wifi adaptors like how laptops ,tablets or cell phones have.

We can connect our desktop computers to Wi-Fi using external Wi-Fi adaptors.

Your situation ,you have a desktop computer and BSNL internet modem.
For WiFi connection things needed are
1)WiFi adaptor for your computer-------This adaptor looks somthing like a USB or like a small rectagular box with a connector mostly 3inch in size.

2)WiFi router-------This will connect all your wireless devices with interent connection.
WiFi routers that are available in market-Netgear JNR3210 N300 ,Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router (WNR612),D-Link DIR-600L Wireless N150,Cisco Linksys E900 Wireless-N300 Router

For home use You can go for anything ranging 150 Meters .
I also use a wifi router it is Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router (WNR612).

cost of these routers can be checked on this site -http://www.flipkart.com/computers/network-components/routers/pr?sid=6bo%2C70k%2C2a2&semcmpid=sem_7847244212_router_goog&tgi=sem,1,G,7847244212,g,search,,20093399794,1t1,b,%2Bwifi%20%2Brouter,c,,,,,,,&gclid=CM-Xl8j1_bwCFUcm4god6ysACA

BEST SITE TO BUY ROUTERS ONLINE

1. Yes
2. Yes, you need wi-fi recievers, most laptops come with them automatically installed, but non-laptops need a reciever
3. Some do, some don't, you need to speak with the shop that you're buying it from
4. You need a wireless router. That's it

1. Yes, you can use WiFi modem in desktop. Most modern WiFi modems support Ethernet & WiFi capabilities. There are around 4 Ethernet ports in most modems. If the desktop machine is nearby, then use Ethernet wire to create wired connection with the modem. Else, use USB WiFi adapter which detects nearby WiFi signals. Like this one: http://www.ebay.in/itm/181342527924

2. You need USB WiFi adapter so that desktop machine gets WiFi detection capabilities. However, that isn't really necessary. You can also use Ethernet wire to quickly setup connection

3. Yes - most of them do

4. Wireless with Modem

I'll suggest you keep the router near your desktop machine and setup wired connection. Use the router's WiFi facility to connect portable devices like smartphone, tablet, laptop, wireless printer, etc

First you have to get something like this -> http://www.flipkart.com/micromax-440w-ro...svmtruegma

Then you have to get a router -> http://www.flipkart.com/netgear-wireless...svmtruegma

Now connect the Micromax router to desktop , then you can easily use Internet via WIFI on your Desktop.
