Is it worth having a .co.uk and a .com website for the same online business?
Hi!
I work for a small business which runs a cloud-based accounting tool. Since it's cloud-based, anyone can use / buy it - so we have users based in NZ, USA, Australia - as well as in our native Britain.
We use a .com domain, based in America - but we are considering a .co.uk domain, based here in Britain, too - not only to make our British users feel more at home, but also as a way to boost the company's profile and Google ranking.
However - from what I've heard, Google doesn't exactly love duplicate content - so the .co.uk website will have to be around 50% different, which is difficult since there is a limited amount we can say about the product!
Is it worth the effort of rewriting etc etc for the sake of Google ranking, or are we better off just concentrating on SEO for our .com website?
Thanks so much in advance - I hope this makes sense.

If you cant provide unique content for the co.uk domain then I will suggest to avoid this domain. But you can do the following task

-----------
You can create a subdomain or separate page for uk market. This will help you to get SEO benefits for google.co.uk and also will reduce the effort of creating new content and managing that.

The page could be like yourdomain.com/uk or yourdomain.com/accounting-tools-for-uk or uk.yourdomain.com something like that.

By using this system you will get the desired SEO benefits within less efforts because you will need to create a single page only to rank for uk market.

Google only dislikes duplicating only when you are displaying google adsense ads on your site/blog.
As this is your very own website for physical business, dont worry. you can duplicate the content for .co.uk from .com site of yours.
The only thing is that the content on .co.uk will only get indexed in Google.co.uk
whereas the content on .com one can be indexed in any google extension i.e. google.com.pk

Thats all.

If you are targeting different countries like this and getting a .co.uk domain just to target the UK will surely bring in further prospect. However, it should not be a duplication of the original site when it comes to content.
