that depends on what you mean by true friend - it could mean anything

and even in real life you can never be sure who is a true friend, so it would be even more difficult to determine this thru facebook

I am on Facebook, and most of my family and friends are too. Facebook can be confusing as you sometimes get a message that a person is trying to contact you to be your friend but it doesn't always mean what it says as once you are registered and you send messages to friends and family, you are then linked with not only your friends and family, but their friends and families too by merely just chatting to them. You might not even have met them or know them, you are linked merely by just contacting one person. Don't forget Facebook is worldwide, and even linked "friends" can be of any age !!!! The thing i suggest is to ask questions and find out why they have contacted you, who they are and how they may be linked. Then you can better decide wheather you want to become friends, whether it is possible to become friends as they can be coming from the U.S.A and you could be in the U.K. or at the least hundreds of miles apart. Friends at some time would have to meet but is this really possible. Friendship can be possible with Facebook but you have to do your homework first.

There is a difference between friends and Facebook friends. Facebook friends are rarely true friends. In fact, you may not actually know who that person is. Anyone can put up a picture and say it is theirs. Facebook is the Internet and people lie on the Internet. Behind a keyboard, you could be anyone you want to be.

So, there is no way to tell just through Facebook if a friend is true. Stick with real friends in your life.
