Steam or internet problem?
So I was trying to download a game on Steam and then it kept saying 'update required' i couldn't get to the updates but then it went back to installing a few seconds after. Then it just stopped and said there was a problem and said (no internet connection) but when I went onto Internet Explorer (ik i still use it) it was working fine. I am using an Ethernet Cable because the idiot who made the computer didn't put in wifi (to my knowledge) but I do have Windows 8 so if I do have wifi and need to turn it on can you let me know how? Basically I cant download on steam becuz as soon as all that stats happening the 'time remaining' thing disappears and it says its downloading but nothings happening. And yes I did restart Steam and my computer.
I know i didnt give the best explanation but if you know wether its steam or the internet/cable let me know

If IE is still working for you, and you can post on Yahoo! Answers, then your Internet is fine. Steam's probably having a problem.

So, it's Christmas. Steam always has problems around Christmas-time. In fact, Shenryyr was just diconnected and commented about it during a Let's play for EUIV, which has to autosave to Steam online for achievements.

Go to task manager, find the proccess "steam" and end its process tree.

Go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

The \Steamapps\ folder and Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

If the issue persists, make sure your network is optimized for Steam:
