Does my blog help my website SEO?
I have a Blog hosted on Wordpress.com that i publish my main site's news etc. I link to my site in my blog posts and link back to my blog from my main site. Am i doing it right? Is this helping for my main sites SEO? I write quality, relevant posts etc.

Also should i upgrade it to a domain without the /wordpress subdomain?

Many Thanks

Of course hosting your blog under the main domain, this may go double for some ecommerce sites that just has catalog pages and little text, linking from some free hosted blog will just be one backlink source, though in-body links are more highly than comment links you might get from another blog.
Most of the paid hosts have easy wordpress installers that can install it into a /blog or /articles directory on your main site.

To start with, you are doing good. And as long as you post quality content on your blog its fine. No need to link back much from the main site to the blog. You can also improve results and guarantee yourself against anti spam Google updates by having an author signature in the blog with a link to your G+ account. In the G+ account (in about) add both urls (site and blog).

Now, a better way would be to have the blog on the main site. Preferably as a dir, e,g mainsite.com/blog/ otherwise as a subdomain blog.mainsite.com

The blog is more than an SEO tool. You can actually gain a lot of traffic by building the blog's authority and number of regular readers. Connect the blog to social media accounts, tweet about your posts. After building a large audience you can leverage it.

Last thing. If you'd like to move your blog to the main site, its possible. Create one on your main site and redirect it correctly, post to post.

Hope that helps and feel free to ask any more questions you might have
