Why do people constantly display themselves/their relationships on social media? Is it for attention? Is it to make thin

Why do people especially couples constantly post stuff on Facebook and Instagram? Do they do it for attention?
I know this girl who I have always liked since we were kids and I feel it's been the same but she always retreats when things seem to move to the next level. She puts things on Facebook and Instagram that are obviously to get my attention. She's dating a jerk right now and she does nothing but put pics of them on there. My question is do people like her do that to make people think that they are happy? I feel that if a relationship was going well, pics would not have to be put up because there would be no time to even think of putting them up. Like maybe it's all a front that people do to cover their misery. What do you think?

Social media is about sharing your life. A gf/bf is a big part of someone's life which is why they'd post so much of one another. But some people go overboard like it's the only thing in their life. And maybe some are insecure and want to let everyone know hey that's mine!! Lol I don't know everyone is different!

Some people want others to know all their business. Some use Facebook and other sites for that. There are some who like to cause drama so they post it on the sites. I tell noone my business so I don't post it anywhere.

people are like sheep, they do what's in..we are in the age of reality tv and unless it was on FB did it ever really happen..it's a trend...and yes, agreed, i'ts often just that a front to cover their misery...

Well that is what people do. Facebook is supposed to be to share about your life and your social life as well. People want to know what you are doing and what you are up to. Granted not everyone needs to know what you are doing and nor do they care about everyones business but people post about it anyways because they want the whole world to know how happy they are and pretend to be perfect online or something.

Personally I can't stand that. I don't mind if people do it every once in a while like with my boyfriend I rarely post things about us together except for once in a while. I don't mind if people do it sometimes but I don't feel like I have to let the entire internet know what is up with me and him cause what we do together really is our business and no one elses. Some people also just like the attention I suppose.
