What does this mean statement mean?

One of my clients is telling me I owe her a refund because she doesn't have page one rankings for her keywords. I do search engine optimization.

The way I worded her contract when I wrote the Guarantee was:

"Get top rankings on Google within 90 days or your money back!"

She does have page 2 rankings for more than one of her keywords
but the first page of results is blocked by a bunch of directories that
have page one rankings for her same keywords.

My question is, what does it mean to you when someone says "top rankings"?

Wouldn't it be considered that page one or page two results is at the top?

I definitely would expect page 1 rankings, because if you're not on page 1 then you might as well not waste your time with the SEO.

But your real problem is your promotion. You need to manage your clients' expectation. I think it's too much for you to guarantee top ranking within 90 days. What about "better rankings within 90 days"? Plus, small business people with fight to the end for $1, so I wouldn't offer a cash back guarantee.
