Russel Simmons is your main man. I would start by watching a documentary called "The Industry" about him, then read "How to Make It in the New Music Business: Lessons, Tips and Inspiration from Music's Biggest and Best" by Robert Wolff, "How to Make It in the New Music Business: Lessons, Tips and Inspiration from Music's Biggest and Best" by a woman named Schwartz (can't remember her last name), "How To Rock: The Ultimate Guide To Making It BIG In The Music Business: Written By Someone Who's MADE IT!" by Kyle Morrison Lovely (yeah his real name).

Schwartz has written several good books on the subject so that's just one I can remember right now.
It's a lot of hard work, long hours, dedication in the face of narrow-minded people, and creativity. Seriously, I would not worry about Youtube and Facebook until after reading these books and really studying them. All the cute videos don't do much without talent and persistence and direction.
