New laptop isn't connecting to my router?

I just got a new laptop and router. everything was going smoothly until it came time to connect tot the internet. It won't connect at all even though it was available. Sorry I cant provide a lot of information... I don't know a lot about computer, although I DO know I have windows 8

Hopefully you have a secured connection. Click on where it says internet options and find the networks that are avail. Your computer should automatically search for networks available with in your area. You may find many, so find the one that belongs to you. Do you have the code from your router? If so, you must enter the security code into your computer so that it will recognize your new laptop. Do you still have the other lap top so that can find the settings?
