Yes there separate programs E.g Chrome,Firefox and IE.
And both use host processes.

Browsers are just ways of interpreting and showing information; they don't get involved with eachother. Not only can you have a multitude of them installed, but you can use them all at the same time, they have no affect on eachother.

Yes. For my job I actually use Firefox, IE, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari (all for different programs, testing, etc) at the same time. They all do the same thing as far as browsing the web.

one of the coolest thing to do in ff is to create profiles and load different profiles for different purposes
